Gaston County, North Carolina

Formed from Lincoln County in 1846, Gaston County built a textile economy after three cotton mills opened between 1845 and 1848, and the 1929 Loray Mill strike in Gastonia became a key event in the American labor movement. Dallas served as the county seat until Gastonia took over in 1911; the county has fifteen incorporated cities and towns and includes Crowders Mountain State Park.
