Lincoln County, North Carolina

Formed in 1779 from the eastern part of Tryon County, Lincoln County led North Carolina in iron production in the early 19th century with ten forges and four furnaces, then gave up territory in the 1840s to form Cleveland, Catawba and Gaston counties. The Revolutionary War Battle of Ramsour's Mill was fought in present-day Lincolnton in 1780, and the county borders Lake Norman.
