Kannapolis, North Carolina

Spanning Cabarrus and Rowan counties, Kannapolis was built around the Cannon Mills textile company and incorporated as a city in 1984. Its downtown now hosts the North Carolina Research Campus, a public-private center for food, nutrition and biotechnology research, and the city is the hometown of the Earnhardt racing family.
