Davidson, North Carolina
Straddling Mecklenburg and Iredell counties near Lake Norman, Davidson grew up around Davidson College, founded in 1837 and named for Revolutionary War Gen. William Lee Davidson. The town's historic core is a National Register historic district, and it is the headquarters of Fortune 500 manufacturer Ingersoll Rand.
